Yosemite National Park provides habitat for a number of species of birds, both on the valley floor as well as in the high Sierras. Yosemite has it all, riparian habitat along the Merced river, woodlands, high coniferous woods, scrub, alpine meadows, and near high desert regions. Some birds, such as the Stellar's Jay and Acorn Woodpecker, choose to live in the valley and can be seen around the lodges. The Pine Siskins and Chestnut-backed Chickadees stay nearer the woods and at higher altitudes. Mountain Bluebirds can be found in the Sierras and Alpine meadows.
